Is it still possible to import Kindle books into LingQ in 2026?

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to import my purchased Kindle books into LingQ, but I’m running into a wall. It would be really nice to be able to use the books I’ve already purchased on Amazon Kindle for my language learning.

Kindle books come as protected .azw3 or .kfx files with DRM. LingQ only accepts .epub, .pdf, .mobi, etc. I tried the usual route:

  • Downloaded the books via Kindle for PC

  • Tried converting them with Calibre + DeDRM plugin

However, in Calibre 9.8 the “Load plugin from file” option has been removed, and the older method no longer works easily.

Has anyone found a reliable way to get Kindle books into LingQ this year? Any current workaround that actually works?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT:

I also tried buying directly from Google Play Books (“Маленький принц”) and from Kobo (“20 Short Stories in Russian for Beginners”). Both pages said EPUB / EPUB2, but both only downloaded as .ascm license files. I couldn’t get a usable EPUB from either platform.

So far every major store I’ve tried is giving me protected files that LingQ can’t import. Any recommendations for places that actually sell clean EPUB Russian books in 2026?

Regarding Google Play Books, you need Adobe Digital Editions to download the EPUB file. Afterwards you can use Calibre to strip the DRM. (Note that not all books sold by Google are in EPUB format, though. Sometimes they are pdfs. That can be problematic as you can’t know whether the text in them is actual text or images before buying them.)

If Kobo is using ascm, too, I assume the process is the same.
