In web reader non-synchronized, how to click on a sentence to hear it?

When I am in the web reader, non-synchronized mode, page view, how can I:

  1. Click on a sentence to start the audio play there. Or to repeat that sentence.
  2. Jump the page view to the page where the audio is currently at.

Thank you.

PS. This is my first post on the forums. I tried to find an answer before posting. I read the faq and other places on the LingQ website. Google’s AI said there would be a speaker icon next to each sentence but I think this info is outdated. If you have a suggestion as to how I can better search for the answer to my future questions, they would be welcome.

  1. I think that only works in syncronized text mode.

  2. Install this script LingQ Extension (Custom Layouts, GPT, AI-TTS, Lesson Audio Generation, etc.) created by community member. It jumps to the correct part of the text in “page” mode. Actually it gets rid of the pages and makes it 1 long scroll. . Unlike LingQ this script lets you change the color of translation under each sentence to whatever color you want.

LingQ don’t have speaker beside each sentence, unless you use sentence mode, where there is a speaker button for each sentence page.

If you want a speaker icon next to each sentence in page mode you will have to look elsewhere. I know that this app called Smart-Book has speaker beside each sentences. https://smart-book.net/ . but… It is not a web based reader.

I installed the extension. All the layout options I tried were unusable. Including OFF. I had to deactivate the script in order to read clearly the translation. Maybe this script needs an update from the author. I’m assuming I automatically got the latest version.

ok maybe the author @vet8t6z79pc4 can help you. Or try reloading/refreshing the page.

It looks fine on my chrome browser.

I’m the developer of this script.
I tested it for Chrome, Firefox, and Mobile envs. All works well.
If you provide more information with screenshots, I could help you.

Here are side by side screen shots. Before and after activating the script. Note that Japanese has the extra phonetic characters over certain words. Note that I’ve configured LingQ reader for “double page” but it doesn’t work. The second page appears for a fraction of a second then disappears. I tested with standard page width and got the same results. I am on Chrome, Win10.

in the script’s settings, I increased the line height to 3x. It solved the problem of overlapping texts. There is a green line over the script’s icons. It shouldn’t be there, I believe.

The overlapping text problem is gone. But, not all the text of the lesson is visible. There are no left/right arrows to go from one page to the other. I’m guessing it’s because the text is meant to appear on one long page. Sometimes, the page is filled with text but the extra text disappears after a fraction of a second. I’m guessing some page formatting is hiding the rest of the text.

By capturing a screenshot at just the right time, I can show you the page before the rest of the text disappears. Every time I hit refresh F5, the text appears then disappears. Note: I installed Tampermonkey just for this script. This is the only script under Tampermonkey. I have no Chrome extensions installed that target page formatting. I can supply a list of my extensions if you’d like to check for conflicts.

Hmm, I have no idea why it doesn’t work. It should work like the last picture you provided. Try another browser and let me know if it also happens.

FYI: I don’t have enough time to investigate the problem and fix that for now.

I’m using this script without any issue.

To future readers, just fyi, the problem got solved by changing the font from standard to traditional. I see no logical reason why that would work.
