I’ve imported a video from YouTube that has “French (Canada)” subtitles (that are correct) and “French (auto-generated)” subtitles (that are incorrect). I have the correct French Canada subtitles open in the video when I click on import through the browser plug-in. I don’t see an option to choose which subtitles to import into LingQ and it keeps importing the incorrect auto-generated ones. Please help?
Can you please post video URL? We will look into it.
It’s not a one off, the extension is routinely grabbing the auto-generated CC instead of checking first to see if actual CC are available.
If you want a URL to play with it keeps doing it with this one, and I’ve tried 3 different browsers just to see if that changed anything (it didn’t)
To state that more clearly, I haven’t found a case where it picks the correct CC, it prioritizes auto-generated in every case I’ve checked. Here’s another URL if you want one to test with:
If your team is relying on the YouTube “transcript” feature to get the full text, I think YouTube itself has a bug with that feature. It is selecting the auto-translated CC for the transcript, even when I have the correct CC selected. (I was going to copy & paste manually and realized I can’t even get the correct CC transcript from YouTube, so I’m guessing that’s what the programmer on the extension was trying to do as well).
