Importing YouTube videos

I’ve been trying really, really hard to get the Import extension working on YouTube videos. Lynx spent a lot of time with me, today and yesterday, until Lynx apparently ran out of steam and I was cut off, and we still couldn’t make it work properly.

I downloaded and installed it twice, whereupon Lynx insisted I should see a button or an icon on my bookmarks “favorites” bar when I was on YouTube. But there was nothing there.

I’m using Safari on a Mac. Is there a help page somewhere for this? Has anyone had a similar problem, and solved it?

Sorry to hear you have issues. Did you install LingQ Importer extension in your Safari browser?

I also cant import-“no cations found” from youtube. I have deleted and reinstalled the latest version of the importer. turned off my vpn and tried both edge and chrome. Any thoughts?

Yes, I did. I tried several times, with the same result. Then I remembered that Safari can be a bit quirky, so I installed Firefox and tried it instead.

The installation process on Firefox was quite different, but I did ultimately get the little icon, and I got a response from LingQ when I imported YouTube videos.

So far, so good.

But then, I couldn’t get it to proceed. It told me that the YouTube video I wanted had the wrong kind of captions. I tried several others - same result.

What would be the right kind of captions? And is there a way I can tell in advance if a YouTube video has the right kind of captions?

@Soglio Can you please provide example video URL so that I can take a look? Thanks.

I will do so as soon as I encounter the phenomenon again. Thanks.

Here we are. I tried in import this video

and got this error message:
“Importing failed - No captions found”

This isn’t EXACTLY the issue I had earlier, but it’s similar. And it’s additionally weird, because in YouTube I can see the captions/subtitles.

Ah, but then, minutes later, it worked.
