I’m a beginner to Chinese and I’m pretty excited about trying out reading some ebooks in Chinese. Harry Potter imported just fine and the pinyin looks really accurate so far. It was an epub book. I tried importing an ebook that was probably too big for LingQ. I emailed customer support and I’m still waiting on a response but I think that’s going to be the problem. So I converted the book into a text file and just copied and pasted the first “book” in the ebook into LingQ instead. The ebook isn’t just one book but the whole series of books - hence it’s so big. They charged me $200 for it too lol. Me being the language nerd that I am I had to have it so I might be the only person who bought the Wheel of Time in Chinese on the Google Play store. You can’t buy the books individually (at least at the moment). Just the whole series or the last 3 books.
Sorry for the tangent. The problem with the ebook in text format is that LingQ did a really bad job with the pinyin. It basically skips lots of characters so there’s only pinyin for some of the characters and it’s a bit of a mess. Since LingQ did so well with Harry Potter I’m a bit surprised. Is there a trick to importing Chinese ebooks? Maybe pure text is not a good idea? Or maybe something else? Maybe just bad luck?
