Importer concerns

Dear all, Greetings from Geneva, Switzerland. I’m new to LingQ and find it a very good resource. The import feature seems a good idea, but I’m concerned about data security in relation to the Importer extension. This is the popup message I get from Firefox explaining what the LingQ extension can do:

  • Access your data for sites in the nflxso.net domain
  • Access your data for sites in the nflxvideo.net domain
  • Access your data for sites in the netflix.com domain
  • Access your data for sites in the youtube.com domain
  • Access your data for www.lingq.com
  • Access browser tabs
It seems slightly worrying in our age of oversurveillance! Can someone explain what “data” is being accessed? I wouldn’t be using netflix, but youtube possibly, and of course LingQ. And why would it need to access browser tabs?
    Thanks for any help.
    Regards
    Nigel

Hi Nigello,
No worries, there is no any security issue with the extension. It needs to access browser tabs so that it can import content from any website you want to import text from.
Extension does support YouTube, Netflix and other videos sites importing, but it can also import texts from any other site you want to import from.
