Well, not exactly!

There are two separate definitions of “été”

  1. été (noun) = summer
    l’été = (masculine noun) = the summer

In a sentence: J’adore l’été = I love summer

  1. été = participe passé
    été is the past participle of the verb: “être”
    être = to be

il/elle/on est
nous sommes
vous êtes
ils/elles sont

To be
I am
you are
he/she/one/it is
we are
you (plural) are
they are

Here is the perfect form:

j’ai été
tu as été
il/elle/on a été
nous avons été
