How useful is Lynx AI?

I read the article “What is Lynx AI in LingQ,” and it lists a lot of features—but how useful is it really? I guess it depends on your goals.

I’m studying a couple of languages (English and Finnish), and I mostly listen to and import content from YouTube. I don’t really practice speaking, though, since I don’t hear these languages in my daily life or have anyone to practice with.

Maybe Lynx AI could help with that?

Hi, MarkSiip! It can help. Look at here a prompt for Lynx

For me, I find ChatGPT much more useful. I can tell it in one thread to converse totally in Iberian Spanish or I can tell it to converse in English, but use Iberian Spanish to inform answers to questions.

It just takes seconds to copy a sentence, paste it into Chat and have it explain it. When I ask about a verb, noun, etc. I have it automatically give me the etymology, word family, etc.

I can also converse with it back and forth with voice, roleplaying, just like a real conversation with a friend, shopkeeper, barista, or camarero.

I only use it to get a more accurate translation of the word and one example in a sentence. I find it faster to do it there than in other AI

It’s a small detail, but I like the way it adds unknown words as LingQs and how it ensures I communicate in my target language (French).

I agree, I wish LingQ could make it possible to let us connect our API/Chatgpt plus, and use that.

But maybe, if you don’t have other AIs, it could be useful.

I’ve used it a little bit with my German for trying to get my speaking off the ground. I dictate to it and have it correct my German and I can look up words. I still use chatgpt too as it has the voice feature. It would be helpful to ask grammar questions and such as well. Another feature, not groundbreaking but helpful to an extent for me.

How do you get it to speak slowly or is that not a problem for you?

I try to have a back and forth in indonesian and its way too fast and almost mumbly.

That’s a great idea. I’m unclear why every app has to have AI these days. I use Lingq for its core features. Those differentiate it from other apps. To date no one does it better.

Tell “him/her” to speak slower. When the speed is right, then tell it to continue speaking at that speed.

Yeah its weird because i tried that and it didn’t work. When i asked it why, it wouldnt give me a straight answer but would admit that it’s saying it was (slowing it down) but not actually doing it.

Ill have to play around with it some more

Thank You!
