How to keep progress on reading challenge from resetting itself?

I am reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in French and finished the first chapter. Once I finished, the progress in the reading challenge moved to 3% but dropped to 0.31% the next day. What is going on? How do I keep the progress from resetting itself?
