Speak only Ukrainian.
Try to convince your close people to speak only Ukrainian.
Listen a lot to Ukrainian content.
One person followed that path here:
For @darbu and @nicolasbrunel :
Nicolas Brunel’s advice is perfect.
Ukrainian is my native language (father and mother).
I learnt Russian in France (second language, in addition to French and English), because there were no Ukrainian courses at the time.
I stopped speaking Russian completely in 2014.
I resumed serious study of Ukrainian at university (UCU Lviv, Université de Lyon).
Avramenko is perfect, Nicolas is right.
There is also the free Є Мова course, very effective in getting rid of the surgik and the mix of Ukrainian and the neighbour’s language.
I confirm Nicolas’ advice: Speak only Ukrainian, to your friends, (even if they continue to speak the language they want) to yourself, to your pets… Keep your diary in Ukrainian.
Unfortunately, I haven’t completely forgotten Russian, which I still understand more or less. But I avoid situations where this language would be used as much as possible. And I would rather use French, English, or Ukrainian than this language, which I don’t want to use.
But I am now completely unable to speak it, only Ukrainian comes naturally and instinctively to me. And it’s a great pleasure to progress in this extraordinary language, to speak naturally, without foreign words. It’s a daily joy. You can feel this joys too …
Forgetting will come naturally, without effort.
I speak Ukrainian, although it is easier to communicate in Russian. But we know that language is a weapon. Russians are ready to “protect” (c) everyone who speaks Russian or loves Tolstoy and Tchaikovsky. I have already thrown everything out of the house twice and had to move several thousand km so that the “protection” would not happen again. I am sad that I am of some old formation, that it is difficult for me to speak. It seems that this is because in school they taught me that soon the world will speak Russian, so there is no need to study foreign languages.
