âpassively knownâ = words I understand/donât need to look up in the dictionary.
Spanish is full of cognates for French and English speakers.
I trust the system: read 1+ million words per year, listen to podcasts daily, Netflix in Spanish (with Spanish subtitles), Assimil, newspapers (El PaĂs: 1 year for 10âŹ), etc..

I felt the same way when I first saw some of the big numbers that people were putting up in a year or a few months, but itâs very doable if you are an English speaker or speak another Romance language. There are so many cognates in Italian, French, and Spanish for English, itsâ very easy to rack up numbers. Then if you read daily, it ofc grows even faster.
