French speaker here:

  • if the person is non-native, it’s Ok, they’re learning. I notice it, but it doesn’t bother me much.
  • if the person has no accent - ex: Jodie Foster -, or worse, is native, it annoys me to an uncomfortable level and my brain automatically prepares a report card.

I am native German. I would second what alain said. It is not necessarely super annoying if a native speaker makes mistakes, but it can, when talking about complex topics that require complex sentences, cause troubles in understanding.

As you ask as a language learner: my main issue aren’t people making mistakes. We all do. But if someone from the start up thinks he can judge that it isn’t important to deal with a certain aspect of a language, just because he obviously doesn’t want to, I find that very strange.

I am Austrian with German as my mother tongue: I couldn’t care less, as long as it’s clear what the speaker wants to say.
