How could we write down a long URL-address in the Forum?
I met a problem with writing a long URL-address in the Forum. For exemple, the following one:

http://breakthrough.ru/miscellaneous/55-proverte-naskolko-horosho-vy-vladeete-angliyskimi-zvukami.html

It is dislayed not correctly, with some unwanted extra spaces.
Could you recommend me something for that subject?

How about tinyUrl: http://tinyurl.com/ ?

You only have to enter the long URL, and then you’ll get a short one.

Thank you, il_melomane70, but I would expect to show the domain of the URL.

Long urls will not display on the forum. They get spaces added to them otherwise they break the layout of the page. The only way to have a functioning url is to use a url shortener like tinyurl.

Thank you, I see…

I don’t know how it’s done technically, but I’ve visited forums where the URL is shortened, like “Support & Feedback Forum - Language Forum @ LingQ…” but a mouse-over would display the whole URL (in the status bar at the bottom of the browser).

Surely there must be scripts around that shorten strings visually (not that it’s a big problem using Tinyurl, but it’s a few steps more than just writing the post).

And I feel more save if I could see easily where the Link is leading too.

Yes, “Support & Feedback Forum - Language Forum @ LingQ…” is very good!
But if I understand Mark well, it is impossible. That’s right?

@Jeff - Yes, that is probably the best solution which we will implement when we have time.

Thank you, Mark!
An another possibility is an expression like this:
URL >>

This kind of expression will transform the long URL into “URL >>” (or into “http://digest.subscribe.ru/inet/review/n…”)
