Highlighting new phrases

Hi there,

When I’m trying to highlight a new phrase and then clicking on “New hint”, pop-up window does not appear (I’m using Firefox).

I have the same problem in Firefox, (Windows XP)

Hi,

It appears that this is a bug that exists in all browsers. Hopefully it’s a simple fix but we’ll have to look into it to see what the problem is. Thanks for reporting it!

I also the same problem in Internet Explorer, (Windows 7). I haven’t been able to create new LingQs for two days.
The pop-up widow does not appear when I click on “New Hint”, however it appears when I click on the button above “New Hint” if there is.

@hirohide - That functionality was broken but was fixed around 15 hours ago. Please refresh your browser and try again.

Thank you for your comment. I re-tried to create LingQs, however I couldn’t create them in some cases. I can create LingQs or the pop-up window appears if the words or phrases are originally highlighted in blue. But if I make the words or phrases highlighted in blue newly by myself, the pop-up window does not appear even if I click on “New Hint”. Only in my browser?

I hope my English explains the situation clearly. Thank you in advance.

I’m afraid that I forgot to add another problem I have. I think Quick LingQ tab is very useful because I can copy & paste the sentences I want to freely and put them in the space of Flashcard, however the words and phrases I make highlighted in blue newly by myself do not appear in Quick LingQ tab.

I can understand a little bit of confusion when the system is changed or improved.
I don’t like me complaining much about LingQ system, but I’d like you staffs to solve some confusion or problems, because I love learning English at LingQ system.
Thank you in advance

Hirohide,
Try to refresh your lesson page several times. It means that press F5 key several times. In my case, first I had the problem as you wrote, but after I refreshed the page, the creating lingQ works well as before even if when I use the brower IE8. Recently I usually use FireFox as a regular browser.
Hope this helps.

Nobuo
Thank you very much for your comment! After I pressed the F5 key several times, I could solve the first problem. I mean that now I can create LingQs of words or phrases I make highlighted in blue newly by myself.

However, the words or phrases I make highlighted in blue newly by myself in standard view do not still appear in Quick LingQ tab.
And When I go back to the standard view after I check the Quick LingQ tab, the blue highlight on the words and phrases I made are gone.
Should I press the F5 key more times?

hirohide,

There is no need to press the F5 key again. The reason why these words don’t save their blue highlight is because you’re not actually doing anything with the words. In order for these to save you need to create LingQs of the words. Simply highlighting them and refreshing the page will cause these to clear, as has been the case all along. The reason why this is caused when you view and exit the Quick LingQ tab is because the page has to refresh to load the Quick LingQ view.
You have to create LingQs of the words after you highlight them or else they will go back to as they were.

@hirodide - Just to add to what Alex said, only blue words will show in the QuickLingQ list. If you want to LingQ phrases, you have to do this in the standard view just like before. Words that you LingQ or make Known are removed from the Quick LingQ list.

@alex, mark

Thank you very much for both your comment. I’m sorry to bother both of you since I cannot make the point of the problem clear because of my poor English. I feel a language barrier. I’d like to improve my English more and more at LingQ.

Only just once more again please let me explain it.

First now I can create LingQs of words and phrases in standard view just like before. It’s Ok and I can keep up creating LingQs just like before.

Thanks to the present updates, words and phrases “originally” highlighted in blue in standard view appear or exist in Quick LingQ tab when I click on the tab and it is very useful for me to create LingQs on the tab because I can copy & paste the sentences directly from the lesson page.

However, after I make the words and phrases blue-highlighted “newly” (this means these words and phrases are neither highlighted in blue nor yellow at this moment because I made them “known” before) in standard view, these newly blue-highlighted words and phrases do not appear or exist unlike the words and phrase that are “originally” blue-highlighted (this means these words and phrases are new to me or I have not made them “known” yet) when I go to the Quick LingQ tab.

I do not have confidence in having explained the problem well.
If my explanation is not understandable, please ignore this post.
In any case now I can create LingQs like before in standard view.
I just cannot get the most out of the usefulness of Quick LingQ tab fully.

Thank you.

@hirohide - In fact, you did explain yourself well before! I understood what you meant. I am saying that we will not be adding phrases you highlight to the Quick LingQ tab. That is not what it is designed to do. However, if you want to copy and paste examples into your flashcard for phrases while in Quick LingQ mode, you can do so by clicking on a phrase in the My LingQs list. This will open the widget (flashcard) for the phrase so you can copy and paste from the text.

@mark

Thank you again.

I am saying that we will not be adding phrases you highlight to the Quick LingQ tab. That is not what it is designed to do.
Now I can understand everything. I am very grateful for the present upgrades including Quick LingQ tab.
