Hi, what’s the difference between 朝食を作る and 朝食を作り？ Thanks a lot!

  1. If you use the ます-stem of a verb it becomes a noun.
    本 を 読みます （ほん を よみます） → 本 を 読み （ほん を よみ）
    read (a book) → the reading (of a book)

  2. Another function of the ます-stem is to connect sentences. Similar to the て-form.
    本 を 読み、…
    In this case it would translated as “read a book (and)…”
    You can find this from in Japanese novels.
