I don’t believe this is a real word. In this context it’s meaning can be seen as: snake-like + -ness. Really though, it’s just an odd way of saying, “…hawking their snake oils.”
In case you aren’t familiar with snake oil, it represents anything that is sold as a miracle product and then doesn’t work.
