I’m a native English speaker who has previously learned Spanish. I’m now learning French, and it’s going well. The only problem that I have so far is that in some sense it is too easy. There are so many cognates from English and Spanish that I know that I am able to understand much of what is written or said without actually learning the vocabulary!
Any thoughts on how I can make these cognates “stick”?
Not sure what you mean by “stick”? If you already know them, they should already be memorized, no?
As a native French speaker who learned English, cognates can be tricky sometimes because they can have slightly different meaning even though they are the same words. But beside, they certainly make learning a language much easier, so I’d say it’s good news.
