Future languages

Hi, when will the chinese and japanese section be updated? I mean when will these languages be alpha (right now they have a beta status)? And when will other new languages will be introduced at LingQ? Thanks!

Hi Sjoerd,

It’s probably going to be a few months yet before we can give the Asian languages the same functionality we currently offer for the other languages. We will probably be able tooffer additional languages at that time.

Thanks for your reaction! Wat will these new languages be? Are you working on some new languages right now?

We are not working on any languages now. The languages that are asked about the most seem to be Dutch, Korean and Cantonese so those would be the logical choices. We will decide at the time. There will not be much content in these languages when we launch them.

Hi mark, can you tell me what’s the main obstacle to introduce other languages or maybe all major languages? Is babylon a requirement for you to introduce a new language?

mackenzie: just a side-note, “alpha” is usually an even earlier version. alpha is the essence of the software usable by the development team and a few others, beta is good enough for a limited group to test. wide beta is an almost ready version and then the full release is just called “whatever name” with an optional appendage such as version 1, or the year — historically anyway.

Hi Sjoerd,

There isn’t a major obstacle to introducing other languages. Especially since, when we do, we are not going to worry too much about launching with content already. However, there is some setup required and it is these setup tasks which, while not difficult, are somewhat time consuming. Therefore, they have to wait until we have time, like so many things. :frowning:
