Report of week 2 of learning French with LingQ here: http://haisell.net/2016/01/17/french-week-2/
Week 2 done and dusted. So did I make it?
Week 2 target: 2400 known words.
Week 2 result: 2407 known words.
So yes, but only just. It was quite difficult aiming for +100 new words a day, especially whilst working my way through the beginner level 1 content on LingQ. Since the beginner stuff focuses on the really basic vocabulary, it quickly becomes difficult to find new words. So next week I am going to step up to the beginner level 2 content in search of those blue new words! I am also going to drop my daily word target down to +75 just to take a little bit of the pressure off.
Listening is going well. I now have a 40 minute playlist of content I have downloaded from LingQ, and I try to listen to this once a day. I will keep changing it around as I discover more interesting content and become bored of some of the old lessons.
Lots of reading and making lingqs is really starting to have an effect as I notice many really common phrases coming up again and again. It is very interesting how your knowledge of other languages gets to work at decoding the new language: I quickly gobble up words and constructions that are very similar to either English or Spanish, and I run into problems when I encounter a word or phrase that appears very different to either of these languages. However I usually have enough of the code to get a sense of the meaning from context. And so the adventure continues.
Week 3 target: 2932 known words.
