Favorite Norwegian Books

For anybody who knows or is learning Norwegian. What are your favorite books/authors you’ve read in Norwegian?

So far I’ve read Enkebyen by Thomas Enger. This one I found for free on an ebook website. It wasn’t very good though which is probably why it was free.
I’ve also read 3 books by Jo Nesbø (Rødstrupe, Sorgenfri, & Marekors). These were better and they have high quality audiobooks too which is a plus. I’m getting a little tired of reading this series though and am looking for something new.

If you have any good recommendations let me know. I’m open to any genre really. I like reading fiction but am also open to non fiction or books on history too if they’re really good.

Also, I’m focusing on bokmål right now but I may try reading some nynorsk books too in the future so feel free to recommend those too if you want.

You can find some books from this list Five Norwegian Novels to Read Before You Die.

My favorite authors are: Karl Ove Knausgård, Erlend Loe, Lars Saabye Christensen, Ingvar Ambjørnsen, Tore Renberg, Johan Harstad and Jostein Gaarder.

I’m a native speaker, so it’s hard for me to judge difficulty, but I imagine something like “Naiv Super” by Erlend Loe would be a fairly easy read.

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ve heard of the first two authors you mentioned but haven’t read anything by them yet. I’ll have to check out the other ones too.

Knausgård seems a bit intimidating to get into. Some of the reviews I read said his books are very detailed and descriptive so maybe I’ll wait until my level gets a bit higher to tackle those. Naiv Super sounds like it’s probably a good difficulty level for me though, so I’ll probably give that a try. Thanks again.
