There was a question in today’s live feed about adding Estonian. I would love to have this added too and I was wondering if there would be interest to commission the mini stories from someone if no one wants to do them for free.
I have actually no clue to how to go about this, but I was wondering if there would be interest in pooling resources for something like this?

I haven’t got a clue (yet) either but it’s something that I plan on finding out as soon as I’m finished with sorting out my employment. I am currently working hard opening my own business. Part of the plan has for quite some while involved helping Lingq get more languages as there are so many that I would like to learn.
I don’t want to make any promises that I can’t keep but hopefully by the end of May I will be able to produce content (through commissions) for lingq in languages that need more content.

I don’t know what your plans involve, but if you are making this more officially, I’m in to donate money even for languages I’m not currently interested in studying. I would love to have as many as possible at least in the beta level. I don’t much use the mini stories myself, I just import my own content, but since that’s the requirement, I would want to help getting more languages here! Also, if I can be of help in organizing (I’m somewhat busy with my job also, but I can do something), then I’d be happy to help!

To be perfectly honest I’m not exactly 100 % sure how I will do it. I “jumped the gun” so to speak something quite unusual for me. Anyway, I had figured that once I’m finished sorting out my own work situation which has caused lots of stress for me in the past 7 years.
I was thinking about paying someone to have the mini stories translated in a few different languages that I want to learn. I am planning to see how much it would cost to have someone translate and record the MS in as many languages as possible in one go so that we would eventually get them to Lingq.
I’m the sort of person that likes to work on big projects and this plan is maybe 70 % thought-out at the moment. I hope that I will be able to put a lot more time and focus on it. I like to work mostly independently especially as there is money involved but I’m sure that the lingq community can help in some shape or form. However, like I said I got a bit carried away and spoke to soon.

No worries, I also maybe misunderstood your intent. I can go on with looking into Estonian. I might have some contacts… Maybe we can share experiences at least? I think it would probably need to be 1 person per language, because you’d want someone native to make sure the translation is good and to have a natural accent on the recordings.

Hey guys I have 300 easy dialogues in Estonian (no audio yet) + an Estonian native speaker that would be happy to translate the mini-stories if we were to compensate her. I would be happy to work on this project if we somehow had a “guarantee” that Estonian would be added. I am uploading Estonian content in Danish and it is really annoying, it would be lovely to have more languages like Estonian, Lithuanian, Latvian, etc.

Sadly, I don’t really have much experience doing this sort of thing which is part of the reason why I’m not making any big promises at the moment. I know Wintershaker (lingq member) has some experience doing these sort of thing.
I suppose asking Zoran who works for lingq would also be an option as he is responsible for coordinating the MS project.

I understood that as long as the mini stories are there, the languages will be added. Do you have an idea how much she would like for the translation and audio?
She said she can do all 60 mini stories +audio for 150 eur.
She just sent me a recording and her mike is pretty good.
Sounds good to me. I can totally contribute! I was asking about this from Zoran and he mentioned that they are now putting all effort to LingQ 5.0, so no new languages will be added until June-July. But I think this work will take a bit too. Wouldn’t hurt to be all ready whenever the new site is out and they’re ready to add languages!

I guess we should figure out the practicality of this? Not sure if others want to pitch in too
I just saw the saw a similar thread in which they mentioned that the Georgian mini-stories are ready but haven’t been published them yet because the team doesn’t think it is the right time to launch a new language now. After having read these news it completely demotivated me to put any money on the creation of mini-stories for new languages. If I knew that the process was plug and play (Select a language → pay a translator → get the job done → and upload them as a new beta language) all within one week or so, I would be super motivated to not only get all the mini-stories for Estonian or but some other languages as well provided that some of you guys would help me with the crowdfunding.
I might be wrong but I think that the main reason why people who learn uncommon languages want the mini-stories is not because they care about the mini-stories but rather because they have to have the ability to add their own content and see the automatic translations while reading it.
The hammer would be if Lingq had a button somewhere where we could create our own language folder, put a flag, select the dictionaries and start uploading our own private content. I suspect that with time all these private uploaded content could reach a critical mass when it would be possible to make that language an official one in the system.

ٌWell, yes. On my part I don’t really care about the mini stories,w I like to work with a book as a beginner’s course. BUT I would like to start reading my own stuff as soon as possible, which is why I would like all the languages here. I don’t much use the content other people have done.
Although, I would be surprised if one person would be able to get all 60 mini stories done in one week. I don’t actually see a few months as a huge issue.
For me it’s a 50-50 situation, I genuinely like the MS because it’s so easy to just listen to them when you are out and about (expect during this COVID pandemic).
However because I’m the way I am and get sometimes quite bored and distracted quickly I do need a lot of my own material to sustain my momentum.
The create you own slot for a particular language has been talked about from time to time but nothing has come out of it for now.
If that’s the rate, then count me in for, say, a fifth of the total cost (i.e. I’m in to contribute €30 if there are 4 other peope willing to pledge the same). I don’t know when I will get round to Estonian, but when I do, I want to have the option of doing it here.
