Epub support flawed

I just tried importing an epub book to LingQ and it sort of imports… but the whole book is 2 pages long and just includes some links to some social media sites. Obviously it’s missing 99.9% of the book. As a workaround I used Calibre to convert it to DOCX, uploaded that and LingQ seemed ok with the DOCX. It’s missing the cover art and some of the pics which is something LingQ started supporting for imported EPUBS though.

I find Epub support to be just terrible. Pictures do not display properly, chapters still have a word limit l, there is no scrolling mode, and the reader looks outdated. I wish they would make some improvements on that front, but I am not terribly hopeful.

I usually only convert in .txt, fix them, and then import them to LingQ. I don’t care about images though.

@kraemder Sorry to hear! We will investigate if there’s any issue.

Which format do you use if not e-pub?

I shared some stuff I do to clean up and prepare a book before import to lingQ in the thread here. Problems with epub imports pushing words together - #10 by Hsingh

Hopefully some of the fixes/plugin work for you.

Unfortunately all these attempts to fix the book can consume a lot of time which could be spent learning. Sometime I have to import 2-3 times before a book imports the way I want it to. Hopefully LingQ sort out all the problems soon or at least create a guide on how to prepare a perfect ePub for import.

I always copy the text from each chapter and paste it into a lesson manually.

I “snip” an approximate 16x9 image from the cover and put that as the cover of the course I created.

After the lesson is added, then I add the audio for that chapter if I have it.

yes, that’s why I use the simplest method I’ve found so far for me. I don’t want to spend time to fix problems anymore, or tweak things. I just want to upload, read/listen, learn!

Yup, and LingQ is just a temporary stop until we can read native books. So once I can read native books without too much trouble i will just use better normal Ereaders apps that are designed specifically for ebooks.

if i can’t fix errors in imports after 10-15 mins even after export to txt i just skip that book.
