I wonder in “Als ik wat langzamer moet praten moet je het maar zeggen”, what does the word “wat”, and the word “maar”?

Kan ik niet “als ik langzamer moet praten moet je het zeggen” zeggen?

Ja, dat kan ook. Yes that is possible.

‘wat’ means ‘iets’, a little bit.
‘maar’ is a word which is just added to let the sentence flow a little bit better. It is difficult to translate, it could be like,

You should ONLY say it. You should NOT HESITATE to say it.

Hallo, I’m brand-spanking-new at Dutch – just started yesterday. These lessons are challenging, but fun. My understanding of this lesson so far is:

Hallo. Hello.
Vind je het fijn in Nederland? Do you like Holland? [lit. Find you it fine in Holland?]
Gaat het goed op de universiteit? Is it going well at University?
Begrijp je goed wat de andere mensen zeggen? Do you understand well what the other people say?
Als ik wat langzamer moet praten moet je het maar zeggen. If I need to talk slower you should say so.
