I love the idea of watching TV and reading books to learn. My basic vocabulary and comprehension has improved tremendously over the last year or so. But one of my concerns with a more passive approach is that I’m not learning to have conversations. I’m interested to find out how the founders and users find this app as it relates to conversational language learning and confidence. I’ve been leaning more towards apps or tutors where I can have conversations.
You learn to speak by speaking. LingQ does have a place where students are able to connect with paid human tutors, in addition to using comprehensible input to study languages. The traditional LingQ method of reading and listening does help provide fodder for actual conversations, as well as preparing you to understand what your tutor/partner is saying.
The new AI-driven LingQ upgrade may give you a chance to practice speaking with a virtual tutor, but I’m not sure. I use LanguaTalk for that right now. Otherwise human tutors and language partners, and in-person classes are the way to go, if you can find and afford them. I’ve had the best luck with in-person classes and conversation partners myself.
Good luck!
