Do you “ever” celebrate a holiday with fireworks?
- I’d like to know the “ever” mean in this sentence.
- It IS different from the “ever” of “Have you ever…”, right?
- If I leave out “ever” from the sentence, so the sentence will be like this: do you celebrate a holiday with fireworks? Does it make any differences?
Thank you!!
‘Do you celebrate a holiday with fireworks?’ means, ‘Do you regularly celebrate a holiday with fireworks?’
‘Do you ever celebrate a holiday with fireworks?’ means, ‘Do you celebrate a holiday with fireworks even if only rarely?’
So yes, there’s a subtle difference.

I am not an expert on English. But this is what my feeling says:
“ever” referring to the future: will you ever …
“ever” referring to the past: did you ever …
