Chinese Journey from Scratch (Day 7)

I am now on day 7 of learning Mandarin Chinese and I am rather happy with my short progress.
I have applied the theory of listening and reading as much as possible without focusing on the grammar and the results are good.

I have reviewed my LingQs every day, once in the morning and then in the evening and I’m saving as many words as possible. I find that handwriting my vocabulary in a notepad is quite useful, albeit in pinyin.

So what progress have I made?

I am starting to notice patterns within the texts I have read, for example;

  • ‘le’ used as a past tense marker
  • ‘ma’ as a question
  • the verbs don’t tend to change based on the pronouns used (although I could be wrong about this, but I am just highlighting my first impressions)
  • native speakers speak VERY quickly!
  • plurals are created by adding +men

I am still not focusing on the characters and my main focus will be on listening as much as possible to hear how the tones are pronounced.

I will post my 2nd YouTube update tomorrow to explain in more detail.

How is everyone else finding Chinese?

Have a great day :grinning:
