Hello! I did the CELTA a year ago. It was difficult for me at times, but I really enjoyed the program. It was good preparation for the English teaching job I do now.

I m attending the extensive now … it’s a killer for me . the lesson plan takes me for ever and I have a hard time teaching celta style. Do you use the celts method in your teaching ?

Yeah, it was most useful for me in the sense that I got some practical strategies to keep my lessons active and student centered. This has served me well as a teacher so far.
As someone who had no teaching experience, it definitely took me a lot of time to finish the assignments. However, I found as long as you follow their guidelines it turned out fine. Remember that they’re mostly testing your ability to follow the celta teaching philosophy.

What you’re really teaching is the present continuous, and then contrasting it with the present simple which they already know. As a lead-in, how about cutting up some action cards and handing one each to the students (e.g. touch toes, write in your notepad, scratch your head etc). In turn, each student performs their activity and the other students say what it is (there could be some lexis here too). Then you introduce the present continuous as a way of showing what the students are doing now, and reformulate the actions on the board (he is touching his toes, she is writing in her notepad etc). Then go from there.

This is great THANKS !! And what would you have as subsidiary aim ? Pron ? Lesson plans are the hardest for me …

Contracting the auxiliary verb (to be) in the present continuous is the first thing that comes to mind, since at that level, they often don’t contract.
