Hi all, I used to import Kindle books to LingQ but they’ve recently changed their digital content scenario and I haven’t figured out how to do it now (if it can be done.) Meanwhile, I now have a book I purchased with iBooks and would love to be able to get it into LingQ, but haven’t figured that out either. Does anyone know if/how? And if not, does anyone have a current favorite ebook platform you use to get books for importing to LingQ? Would appreciate a step-by-step guide as I’m computer illiterate
I’m going to guess that you are familiar with DRM (Digital Rights Management) – roughly put, it is decryption code that is put into digital books to control their use and to defeat IP piracy.
There is free ebook software called Calibre that will let you read ebooks, catalog them, reformat them, and make some changes to them. There are plug-ins for Calibre that will remove the DRM from ebooks for your personal use.
Several people here use that software. I just use it to convert ebooks from one digital format to another one, (PDF, EPUB, TXT, etc,). I’m not sure how to use it to remove DRM from an ebook.
You can read about it and download it here:

I hope that helps. Maybe other people here can help you with the specifics.
Good luck!
You won’t be able to import ebooks directly into Lingq without removing the DRM first with a special software like Calibre.
Once you get your ebook imported, make sure you keep your lessons private and do not share them as it could cause Lingq issues with copyright infringement if a publisher were to complain for instance.
Thanks for the replies. I know about DRM and I have Calibre. This isn’t the issue I’m encountering… the issue is that the mobi file from Kindle, which I used to grab from the site with the “Download to Kindle via USB” link, is no longer available as that link is no longer available.
With iBooks, the file I have found in my Mac is a giant file that seems to contain all the metadata, and can’t be dragged into Calibre, but I don’t see a simple epub or other file that can be opened in Calibre.
I always keep these private as I don’t want to infringe on any copyrights… but it would be nice to read my own purchased books with LingQ.
I have a great, simple way of importing my ebooks, one chapter at a time, for reading in LINGQ. Using my Windows computer, I open the chapter in the Kindle Program (App). In the Kindle settings I reduce the font size to get large amount of text in one full screen image. Then I use the windows “snipping tool” to capture one page at a time of the chapter I want to read. This is actually pretty easy since a large amount of text can be displayed in one screen with small font. Then in the “snipping tool” I simply click on the button for “Text Actions”, then “Copy All Text”. Then I can paste this text into a new lesson, and usually in a minute or too like this I can easily import a long chapter from my ebook into a new LINGQ lesson. I also like to first paste the copied text to an editor and remove the line breaks using an editor macro. (I use VIM for this). But this last step is optional and only for people familiar with powerful editors such as VIM. Then I read my ebook one page at a time in LINGQ while listening to the Audible Audio Book. It works very well.
Great! A macro with Word or an editor like Obsidian can do the same as VIM.
Also, you have described a quick and convincing way. Many thanks.
