[BUG][BROWSER] Page View Not Working Properly in Japanese Lessons

When I open a lesson in Japanese, everything works fine if I choose Sentence View. However, if I switch to Page View, some strange behavior occurs. Although it visually shows Page View, the scrolling actually behaves like Sentence View—it scrolls by sentence instead of by page. Additionally, the page and sentence numbers seem to be reversed between the two views.

This issue has been ongoing for a few weeks. I’ve tried several troubleshooting steps: using private/incognito mode, switching to Firefox, and even using Edge on mobile. The issue persists across all browsers—but only in the browser version. The LingQ mobile app works correctly.

I hope this can be fixed soon, as it significantly affects the reading experience in the browser.

@guzaishang Strange, I can’t reproduce that on my end, tested on Chrome and Firefox. Do you have that problem with any lesson you open? What browser are you using?

Thanks for checking. I did some further testing, and here’s what I found:

  • The issue occurs with any Japanese lesson I open.
  • I usually use Microsoft Edge, where the problem consistently appears.
  • I also tried fresh installs of Chrome and Firefox, and the issue still happens on both.
  • However, when I logged into a different account on Edge, the problem disappeared, even with the same lesson.

This makes me think the issue might be account-specific, but I’m not sure what setting could cause this. I’ve attached a screenshot of my settings page — could you please take a look and let me know if anything seems unusual?

Thanks again for your help!

After some further testing, I think I’ve found the cause of the issue.

In Settings > App Settings > Reader > Script Settings > Transliteration Style, when I select “Furigana”, the problem appears as described — page view behaves incorrectly and scrolls by sentence. However, when I switch to any other option, the issue disappears.

I hope this helps in identifying the bug. I’d really appreciate it if this could be fixed, as Furigana is extremely helpful for my Japanese reading.

Thanks again for your support!

I had the exact same problem. Thanks for helping me find a workaround!

@guzaishang Thanks a lot! Glad to hear you figured it out. We will have it fixed.
