Brexit: should we stay or should we go?

I will never know if my vote will be counted. I made a mistake when registering which caused a delay, so I only got the postal vote stuff on Friday. I sent it on Monday, so guess it will arrive on time.

My plan for today is not to pay any attention to it until about 22:00 when the voting ends. Do you know when we will find out the result? I guess it will be in the morning tomorrow, though by 1am, we might have a good idea.

May the Leave side win! For the UK, for the EU. It’s a unique opportunity for everybody to think about a new future and stop this European mess. Go Britain!

According to Prof John Curtice (the Beeb’s resident expert in these matters) people could go to bed early in the evening and set an alarm clock for about 2.00am UK time - it’s from then on that things are expected to start heating up. If things are very tight, however, then we might not know the result until 7.00-8.00am on Friday!

Apparently there will be no reliable exit poll - unlike at general elections.

I just voted! :slight_smile:

Whichever way the vote goes, I just really hope it’s a clear result. We need to settle this question.

(As the late Sir James Goldsmith used to say: “We are democrats - the minority will accept the will of the majority.”)

I will probably just check when I first wake up. I used to sit up all night and watch the progress on the BBC, with David D. the machine, but I gave up on that.

edit: …on the other hand, maybe I can just use it as an excuse to play Skyrim all night.

What I find disappointing is how many of my friends on Facebook are writing messages calling everybody who votes Leave racist. I don’t understand this attitude.

Best (and funniest) analysis of this whole thing so far, IMHO:

It’s funny how i can say, without knowing you or them, that every single one of them will be liberal, left wing and reads a broadsheet such as the Guardian.

How can i know this i wonder? Is it because people revert to type and think whatever their respective brainwashing dailies (newspapers) tell them to think?

“This is because parliament is sovereign and referendums are generally not binding in the UK.”

This is interesting. They know the problem with populism.
In addition, I imagine that some of them don’t have definite “unqualified” answers to the question.
Emmanuel Todd, who thinks the EU is already dead, might aggree with the exit, but I don’t know if it is good or bad for British people and peoples in Europe because I don’t know much about the situation.

BBC forecast: UK votes to leave European Union with 309 out of 382 results declared

“48% to 52%”
The difference between the two figures is 4%, but it is the result of the voting of the 2% of the voters. I wonder if all the 2% voters had a definite unqualified opinion.

"The English shires and Wales voted for Brexit while London, Scotland and Northern Ireland backed a Remain vote. "–BBC NEWS
It goes without saying that you cannot make two UKs.

Yes :slight_smile:

@David Cameron

The laughing policeman?

The British Pound is on the lowest level since 1985. Maybe I should take the chance to go on a very cheap UK holiday, as long as I will not need a visa. :wink: As most people voted in favor of staying in the EU it will be interesting to see, if Scotland will call for a second independence referendum.

It is also interesting to see that people in the 19-29 age group were 75% remain, and 29-49 were 56% remain. So the old have decided the fate of the young. I would not want to be a younger Brit at this point.

:+1:

Maybe it’s better to have wise old heads decide these things, rather than youngsters who (in many cases) can’t even be bothered to get away from their playstation long enough to vote?

(Anyway, at 41 years old I’m not SO old - and I have never in my life felt better than I do this morning.)

@Sebastian

Please do come - you would be most welcome!

BTW I have always driven German cars (VW or Mercedes) that isn’t going to change - no matter what happens. The finest cars in the world :slight_smile:

Cameron is a laughing stock now - he has to go.

If you want to buy a new made-in-Germany car, you will have to pay more than you did a while ago. You might instead want to buy a Morris Mini-Minor or something like that. File:Morris Mini-Minor 1959 (621 AOK).jpg - Wikipedia
