This is quite a specific pet peeve I have, so I understand if there’s no fix for it and I know we can choose/write any definition we want but , very often I will find the popular definitions to be a long list of synonyms, which I find to be unhelpful. It’s fine if one word has a completely different meaning depending on the context.
This is just one word I picked at random:
みんな= Everyone
Very consice and clear but here’s another entry:
皆 みんな (adv,n) all; everyone; everybody; everything; (P) 明 みん (n) Ming (dynasty of China, 1368-1644) 三 み (num) three; (P) 子 み (n) fruit; nut; seed; (in broth) pieces of meat, vegetable, etc.; content; substance; (P) 実 み (n) fruit; nut; seed; (in broth
When I’m reading through text with unknown words, a good portion of that time can be spent selecting a concise definition.
It’s not the end of the world, but it would be a nice feature if by default it selected “essential definitions” because even if a words meaning changes based on the context you can still get a better sense of its meaning with one word, much easier than a blob of text that’s switching between languages and using “.;” (P) symbols.
