Auto select definitions

This is quite a specific pet peeve I have, so I understand if there’s no fix for it and I know we can choose/write any definition we want but , very often I will find the popular definitions to be a long list of synonyms, which I find to be unhelpful. It’s fine if one word has a completely different meaning depending on the context.

This is just one word I picked at random:

みんな= Everyone

Very consice and clear but here’s another entry:

皆 みんな (adv,n) all; everyone; everybody; everything; (P) 明 みん (n) Ming (dynasty of China, 1368-1644) 三 み (num) three; (P) 子 み (n) fruit; nut; seed; (in broth) pieces of meat, vegetable, etc.; content; substance; (P) 実 み (n) fruit; nut; seed; (in broth

When I’m reading through text with unknown words, a good portion of that time can be spent selecting a concise definition.

It’s not the end of the world, but it would be a nice feature if by default it selected “essential definitions” because even if a words meaning changes based on the context you can still get a better sense of its meaning with one word, much easier than a blob of text that’s switching between languages and using “.;” (P) symbols.

Thanks for your feedback here, we appreciate it and we’ll see what can be done to make improvements.

I don’t like this, so I stopped using the meanings provided by LingQ. I always look up the words myself and write down the appropriate translations. It may not solve the problem of how time-consuming it is, but at least it’s more reliable.

I understand that LingQ is a tool, not a teacher, but sometimes I still wish it would provide accurate information. On the other hand, I also understand the need to be cautious about whether such investments are really worth it, since even apps that claim to be supervised by linguists can sometimes contain unnatural or incorrect elements.
