August 1, 2025: Update - AI Chatbot, Import from more Social Media, Streaming Sites and Thai Added

It’s been a busy few months as we’ve pushed a variety of new fun capabilities to the apps. Enjoy these updates. We continue to work on more exciting things to come!

Lynx AI Chatbot

As many of you will have noticed over the last month, we launched our Lynx AI conversational chatbot. This is a milestone product launch for a variety of reasons:

First, it is an output activity open to everyone that doesn’t require scheduling or talking to a live person. It lets you practice your language in a relaxed environment. This is especially important when starting to practice in your new language, as it’s a low-pressure environment where you can try out different words and phrases that you’re learning.

This additional use of AI is something that many of you have been asking us to develop, and we are happy to be able to deliver on it. One thing we wanted to ensure when we introduced a chat was that we did not just want users to be able to speak with an AI chatbot. We wanted to make sure it was integrated well into the app and improved the existing functionality.

That’s why it was very important to us to integrate our LingQ creation and tracking functionality within the chatbot. It then becomes a great way to practice output while, at the same time, it’s another fantastic source of meaningful content to learn from.

We hope you enjoy using Lynx AI and look forward to your feedback. We will be continuing to improve this feature over time of course.

New import sources added for the Import Extension

We have also recently added a bunch of fun new sources of content for you to import and learn from: TikToks, YouTube Shorts and Amazon Prime shows can now be imported using the browser extension. Have fun learning from this great video content!

New Language Added - Thai

In addition to the chatbot, we also launched Thai as a new language. Thai has been one of the most requested languages historically, so we’re very pleased to be able to add it and appreciate the contributions of our librarian volunteers for making it happen.

Additional smaller updates:
Android:

• theme settings in reader
• new word highlight colour options
• edit meaning on tap in small popup
• fix issues with tags in popup
• updates to karaoke mode and playlist

iOS:

• lesson audio pauses when tapping on a word to play word TTS.
• setting added to enable/disable this function

Sentence View -- new bugs

–Windows 10, Brave, French Sentence View has always been buggy, but for me in the past few days, it’s become even more annoying, close to unusable. Sentence View frequently freezes. The only workarounds I’ve found are to back out to Page View then go back in. Or to close the page and reopen. But even then it may still freeze on reentry. It may have something to do with French lines which end in close quote “>>”. Selecting more than 9 words fails. 9 words is the limit for a lingq. I select…

i guess this hasn’t been fixed yet? or if it had, then i’m experiencing a new version of this bug, with the same exact symptoms. any workarounds?

hi @mark – thanks for posting this. I was just wondering if LingQ will be rolling out a fix soon to iOS about the playlists? I reported it a few weeks ago to customer support. Basically, I imported a YouTube video and added it to my playlist. When I try to click play when I’m in the playlist area, it does not play.

PS: LingQ 6.0 looks nice, by the way. Is it coming to iOS soon?

@georgewhoyt Are you on version 5.7.10? Do you have an issue with one specific lesson only? As I replied in the email before, we investigated the problem; however, imported YT lessons play in the Playlist just fine on my end in the latest update.

Amazing, I had just started doing AI chats with GPT, but with the tracking functionality working I’ll be using Lynx. Great updates, and thank you for making output easier! The bot has been fast so far and fixes my mistakes, which make useability much easier. Maybe in the future you can add safe roleplay, but regardless I expect to put a lot of mileage on it.

My only contribution for other (minor) fixes would be the ability to resize youtube video windows and have the spacebar affect the video rather than audio. Again thank you for your hard work on everything though.

Is any some guide how to use Lynx? And what can it do?

There is no guide that I am aware of. You just talk to it in your target language. You can talk with it about anything you like, or you can click on a lesson from the recent lessons shown, and it will ask you a question about that lesson. It should then keep the conversation going by asking you about lessons. You have an ability to translate its comment, and it will suggest useful phrases from its comment for you to learn. Those are the buttons that appear below the chatbot’s reply. You can click on any words in the text and you can import the conversation as a lesson.
It’s pretty good at responding to questions in your native language or correcting words in your native language that you use when you don’t know the correct words. Just try it out. Type in whatever you like and see what it does. Enjoy!

I’m not entirely sure what you mean here since the vast majority of words are identical in European and Brazilian Portuguese. However, if there’s a dictionary you would like us to try integrating, please let us know.

The Infopedia Portuguese dictionary used in LingQ is European Portuguese with annotations of Brazilian terms and expressions. I use it every day, it’s excellent.

pretty much every phrase translation is in Brazilian Portuguese witch it sounds very unnatural to Portuguese people, plus the Word translations are always focused on how Brazilians say it and never on how the Portuguese say it, at least add Infopedia from Porto Editora or even google translate Portuguese (Portugal), not being sure of what i mean, means that you know nothing about the diferences between Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese witch is strange since this is a language learning app.

@Superepic: Hi, if you know a good online dictionary for your language combination just send a request to the support to add that dictionary for exactly that language pairing. And please remember, that all the (phrase) translations are made by either users or AI. Just add the European version with maybe the marker PE infront of it to the Brazilian translation. That way you help the next learner. This kind of trouble is found with a lot of languages which have dialects or variations.
