Oh and I’m glad that finally a support for traditional chinese characters is implemented, although I would suggest the following change: Now you can choose pinyin OR traditional characters in addition to the text, which is always shown in simplified. But for people who learn the traditional characters, it would be more helpful to see the main text written in traditional characters. Then you could just focus on the main text and don’t have to jump between then main text and the super script all the time while reading.

I see what you mean. I think the word to word speed has finally improved, though it sometimes is still a bit slow. Obviously I don’t know what bothers platyphylla, but I would add that the servers sometimes seem not to be able to handle the traffic. Of all the sites I vist, LingQ takes the longest to load…

@Sarka1 - We are not having this problem so it must be something happening in your browser. The text to speech is browser specific. Which browser are you using? Is it on a computer or mobile? Any more information you can provide will be helpful. Is this only happening to you for Greek or is also a problem in your other languages?

You can still see the print view which shows the full text but, of course, with no functionality. Just click the menu icon in the top left corner of the text to find Print and other lesson info and controls.

That is not an easy thing to do, unfortunately, so I’m not sure we will ever do this unless it is something a lot of users are asking for.

The issue affecting Chrome OS users should be resolved now. If it’s still happening to you after refreshing a few times, or if you are having this blank lesson issue and you are not using a Chromebook or Chromebox, please let us know.

The print option is still available. On the lesson page, click on the “Menu” button located under the audio controls. You see the print icon in the info panel that pops out.

I have never used it, but it seems you just have to click on the menu button and then you’ll find an option to print the lesson.

We are aware of the speed issues and we are working to improve things. That is one of the reasons we rebuilt the way our pages load and we have been working on improving our infrastructure. However, our site also works a lot harder than most of the sites you visit. It takes a lot of computing resources to do what we do. Comparing all of your words with all words in all lessons to list courses while displaying new words and LingQs numbers takes a lot of computation. Just opening a lesson and comparing your word database with the words in a lesson takes a lot of computation, especially for longer lessons.

Are you having speed issues now? On which pages?

You can do this in the lesson menu. Just click the hamburger icon in the top left corner of the lesson.

I just imported a Greek article and the text-to-speech is working. Which article did you import and using what browser? I’ll try to replicate the problem.

@Leifa - Unfortunately, the appearance of Traditional characters is a bug. They appear but the LingQ functionality is not working properly with them. They should have been converted to Simplified and will be again once the bug is resolved. We hope to enable Traditional characters properly someday.

The TTS issue is a strange one. This is browser dependent and works fine for most users. But, we do have complaints about this issue from some. Somehow your browser is playing the TTS for a different language than the one you are studying. What browser and version are you on? What OS?

They have already said that the show-up of traditional characters is a mistake and they are working on getting rid of it. I think it should stay so as to pave the way for Cantonese.

The thing with linking phrases is that sometimes it works in one go and sometimes it takes repeated attempts (three or four times). It is very sensitive and unstable. (Chrome browser)

I’ve been with LingQ for a while and they are one of the few that stay true to their core and it’s awesome that they are finding improvements for all of us! Thank you LingQ for all your hard work.

New design is good. But I have a problem. Because I don’t see the full text, i click the to right arrow, and then all the unknown words becomes known. But I don’t want this. I just want to see the rest of the text without make the words known. I don’t find any way make the word unknown again.

I was mainly referring to getting to the page in the first place. It takes roughly ten seconds, sometimes even more, until the site has finished loading. My internet connection is not bad, and it only takes split seconds, or one second tops to get to any other page. It doesn’t really bother me personally, but it seems to indicate that the servers aren’t that capable of handling the traffic.

Anyway. I have stayed with LingQ, because it is the only product of its kind, and I also like Steve. His videos, though hopelessly redundant, are always a great pleasure to watch and have been very helpful, especially in the beginning.

So, LingQ is a great product, with quite a few imperfections left. The speed is one thing, but, if you haven’t already you should certainly take a look a the language on your site itself. I have my personal page set to German, but it always throws in bits of English. So you get strange hybrid sentences, which is ironic for a language learning page. That was also the first thing that struck me, when I signed up. It don’t mind now, but to be quite frank, it is a disgrace and it looks quite unprofessional to say the least, that you have that sort of mangaled language even in the contract section. When signing up that is the first impression one gets and it almost stopped me from using it, because I am careful. If not for Steve’s videos, I would have thought the whole thing was a scam…
