The Lynx AI chat bot has been very useful for flexible conversation practice while benefiting from embedded translations and vocabulary building. This feature request proposes extending that concept to allow chatting with other LingQ users in the same way.
Bonus feature: the ability to record audio with transcriptions.
This would effectively create a language exchange platform within LingQ, where users can:
Practice conversation with real learners in their target language
Benefit from LingQ’s embedded translation and vocabulary tools during chat
Connect with motivated language learners who tend to be more serious than on generic language exchange apps
This could be a real potential alternative. I’m just worried that it would take away focus from other things.
But rethinking the community with AI, integrating it with the writing exchange feature, plus adding the communication with other users, all connected with our vocabulary database, wouldn’t be so bad at all. But it would be en entire concept on its own. However, LingQ has already a solid community, so it could take advantage of this potential to create a parallel study environment.
The forum would already provide the potential for language learners to communicate with others learning the same language as well as with natives. This might not work for every language, as some are only learned by a small group and may not be represented by many natives here. But languages like French, Spanish, German, Mandarin etc… are learned by quiet a lot of persons, and native speakers of that language are around here, too.
Despite that, 99% of the communication here is held in English. That raises the question whether people would actually use such a feature. How high is the percentage of LingQ users that make use of the writing exchange feature?
Maybe some of the LingQ or ai features could be added to the forum. However, as you can just have a second window open with google translator and use browser plugins like Yomitan, I am not sure how high the gain is considering the presumably high implementational effort.
Good luck with this. Even in two language exchange platforms, years ago, I couldn’t find anyone to talk to. However I’m native in a small and difficult language so those speaking the most learned languages probably have more sense of achievement.
Eu já andei pensando bastante sobre isso e ter esta opção de encontrar algum usuário do LingQ para conversar em meu idioma alvo e ao mesmo tempo eu ajudar outros com o meu idioma nativo seria fantástico.
