Accumulating points?

I am upgrading my account and understand pts are only valid for a period of time and then expire. I am in the Navy and wanted to ask if pts can be accumulated or how you might suggest I best manage them (my account) when I am away sailing so as to not buy, and then expire, my pts.

Any points that you receive while active on the site, will have to be used up within 90 days. However, when you are going away you can downgrade your account to Free or Basic so you won’t receive points during this period.
