A portion or portions

When you ask how big the meal is in a restaurant, which is correct to ask, “How big are the portions?” or “How big is the portion?” or “How big is a/one portion?” Usually, I use the first.

I think it’s ok to use any. The first sentence is more of a general question about the typical portion size for all of their dishes. Whereas the 2nd or 3rd option refers more to a specific dish that you might be asking about.

"How big is a portion? This sentence is more general
Compared to saying “How big is the portion?” is a specific question about a specific item.
