For topics that tally votes, why is there a limit? Is that a forever limit?

yep, I don’t know if it’s intentional or not, but 5 votes are not much! Imho.

So I assumed that you only have 5 votes at once. That is, you regain the vote you cast once something is either fixed or implemented. This makes votes useful to indicate priority, as otherwise people could simply vote for everything (or so many things that it would be useless as a signal for priority).

I agree but partially. Because it also depends on the number of ideas proposed that will build up with time. Which means going back and taking away votes from previous ideas and move them around, making any idea voted previously only temporary.
Plus, you’re not gonna cast 5 votes because you never know what’s coming up, so you use 4. Or you don’t care and move them around continuously.
Even more, the first ideas published get more votes, then less because people can’t cast votes anymore, or they don’t bother to change their previous ones.
If you let infinitive votes, it’s true that people will cast many of them but not all of them, so you would see more clearly what everybody is liking and even more clearly what everybody dislike by lack of votes.
I would assume vote restriction would better work if you give the participants only a fixed number of popular ideas where the team needs to decide the priority. Like in a second round. Imho.

The less votes you have probably the more wisely will you spend it. 5 seems to be fine for me not to inflate the value of them.
However it would be nice to know for what period are these 5 for. Will it be replenished? Or is it just a one-off for the time being?
I believe votes should reset daily, but let me check this to confirm.
