While listening YouTube in my native language, I left t subtitles on Portuguese

I wonder if there is any learning to be done while reading it this way. I might not focus on the words all the time but pick up a few now and again.

I often watch movies in Portugal which are in English (and other non-PT languages) that have Portuguese subtitles, because – thankfully – the films here aren’t normally overdubbed.

Though it depends on the kind of activity going on in the film, I often find the subtitles useful. Not only for direct comprehension, but I also notice how the translation may introduce subtle differences in the content.

It’s more difficult to say with auto-generated closed captions on Youtube, however, because you may not be getting an accurate translation.
