What would you do if LingQ was not available?

@Wulfgar … It’s not that hard to install, but it is ugly and slow once you’ve got it up and running.

Nice thing about *** is you can modify the code… I did feel the need to address speed and colors used.

Out of the box it is a little ugly, but there are definitely aspects of the display that I liked better than LingQ. I like that you can mouse-over to see the word’s summary without clicking it. And I like that the various learning levels aren’t all shades of yellow, and that ignored looks different from known, and phrases (and their levels) display in a similar way to words.

I also felt like I had better tools to query and manipulate all my words. You can see and sort by actual word frequencies within your texts, mass add/remove tags (like tag all words occurring in certain texts).

For most purposes it is not as usable as LingQ due to not having a built-in library of content, and community definitions for words. It really consumes time to supply all definitions by yourself, especially as a beginner.

I thought I would have to stick with *** for a couple of unsupported languages, but LingQ manages ok. Main issue is that most Vietnamese words are “phrases” in LingQ so they don’t count to the known word count…
