It started as Nikolenko describes it: a text entirely in Ukrainian, like a Ukrainian e-book or news article, or a video is imported. The video is indeed Ukrainian, the audio too. The automatic transcription function writes: it will generate the text, the first two/three pages will be in Ukrainian and suddenly the text becomes in Russian, and it’s not even what the person is saying. It was gradual at first: the first pages in correct Ukrainian, then Ukrainian with the Russian alphabet on a page or two and the text becomes in Russian, and as said Nikolenko, sometimes differs significantly from what the person is saying.
For about 3 weeks, a surreal step has been taken: I import a video partially in Ukrainian, with explanations in English (grammar in particular). The sound of the lesson remains consistent, the video is good, but the written transcription is entirely translated into perfect Russian, the parts in Ukrainian AND the parts in English. I checked that I did not have a fever, that I was not dreaming, and I assure you that I had not drunk alcohol or absorbed mushrooms that make you laugh.
If I know the author of the text, I ask him for his original text and I spend about 3–4 hours modifying the writing paragraph by paragraph, it is very tedious. If I can not have the written text, it is without solution.
I can realize it as soon as a download is finished: usually, a new text has between 9 and 12% of new words. A text “Russified” against my will announces between 58 and 80% of new words: I understand then that I have lost time again. It is astounding, distressing, tiring.
If such a mishap has never happened to you, so much the better, I am happy for you, I hope it will not happen. Otherwise, you will see, the first time, it is very disconcerting.
