As already stated by some people the responsiveness is still atrocious for many tasks. I did a bit of testing and this are my results (Firefox):
Opening a small course (3 lessons): 2-3 seconds
Opening a big course (100+ lessons): 5-10 seconds
It takes 1-3 seconds for the course window to open and the rest of the time is used loading the list of the lessons. Opening another course takes 1-3 seconds again but then it shows me the window of the last course, it takes the above mentioned seconds to update the view for the new course.
Opening a normal/small lesson: 2-4 seconds
Opening a big lesson (3k-4k words): 5-8 seconds
Selecting a word: 2-3 seconds (unusable as the reader is laggy too).
When using Chrome you can cut all the above mentioned seconds by 50% which is better but still not really usable. The only thing that works smoothly is using the reader and clicking on a lingq which is instantaneous.
Some of my mp3 files are no longer recognized as valid even though they work in v4 (will contact support with a sample file, this has to do with v5 and now this specific update)
TITLE LENGTH: They are fixed to 60 chars which is far to low. When I import an article/youtube video they often times have longer titles, I can’t even edit them because my prefered edited title is still over 60 chars long!
I just tried out Chrome instead of Firefox (as Mark suggested on the other thread) and clicking on and lingqing words is very fast. I hope Firefox performance is fixed before launch. First bug I found was that when lingqing with the arrows, the back arrow causes the reader to get lost with no words being highlighted. When pressing the forward arrow again after causing this, some seemingly arbitrary word or saved phrase is selected.
To reproduce this, change the size of the window so that different amounts of text are held on the current page. To fix it temporarily, go to a different page and back and it will be fixed. I assume some list or dictionary or something like that that holds the positions of the words or which blue/yellow words are currently shown is not updated when the window changes size but is updated when the page is changed.
I mentioned this issue on another thread but I was wrong to say it only happens when switching between sidebar and bubble mode.
@ColinJohnstonov I have the same FF situation, except for the arrows. I disabled 2 options “paging moves to known” and “auto lingq creation”. Switching those off might do that part of the job better.
As far as FF performance goes, I agree, it is often toe curlingly slow. To add injury to insult, when modifying the time stamps, it looks like the app is gathering steam on being slow. In the old days I would have said: “memory leak!” , for sure. But now I don’t know.
@mark Editting a line in the text (the transscript) in “edit lesson” mode is sheer horror. After I correct a character on a position, then want to reposition, the “saved-done” combo changes to “saving-done” and blocks any update. To add injury to insult, it repositions the cursor to the start of the line as soon as the saving is done. Try it again, and it repeats. It seems impossible to change the line further. The only remedy is to click a different line and then reposition on the line you want to change. This is really horrifyingly annoying. By the way, in sentence mode, the situation is much better, and although the setup of changing lines is cumbersome, at least it responds.
Finally, about replacing FF. From linux I find FF to be the best browser in every way I can think of (performance, security, privacy). Google chrome (my alternative) suffers from some technical difficulties with respect to audio (that would have been my alternative).
When I go from Page View to Sentence View, I expect to see the sentence containing the word currently selected. In the story that I’m reading currently it goes several sentences ahead of where I’m reading and where I have a word selected.
On my other laptop I can hardly see the yellow highlighting, especially at level 3. That’s not a problem on the computer I’m using now, but it used to never be a problem on either. If others also have this problem, it would be nice if the highlight saturation could be turned up a bit, or better if it could be adjustable by the user.
In order to track completed pages/sentences we have to send you back to the first blue word otherwise the lesson progress will be shown incorrectly. As for the colours, that is something we will continue to refine over time.
Can’t seem to reproduce that issue. Resizing the screen seems to work fine. But, we will keep playing with this stuff to try and reproduce it. As for FF, we are working to figure out why it is behaving so strangely.
FF is the only browser currently experiencing a lot of these issues. We are aware and will be able to spend more time there once we have most other major issues knocked into shape. Unfortunately, FF users are a very small segment 2-3% of users so we have prioritized things that affect most users. Please either use another browser or be patient.
After this issue appears, it can be fixed by changing page.
This only seems to happen when making the window larger so that more text gets added to what is already there. When I press the back arrow and no word is highlighted and then press the forward arrow, it highlights the first blue/yellow word in the text that was added when I made the window larger.
Ok another bug I just noticed when dragging the mouse to select a phrase. Notice how the cursor changes from a hand to an arrow as you move it to the right off the side of the final lingq at the end of a line. If you are selecting a few words to make a phrase and you stop after the cursor changes then the words will not be selected for lingqing a phrase (i.e. the few words you selected will not get the blue background and the sidebar will not change to allow you to save them).
Still a small “bug” when scrolling through previous items in the library (using the left arrow) - the behavior is inconsistent compared to using the right arrow. Scrolling to the next 6 items in a list smoothly moves to the next, but scrolling back causes the previous to slide in from the left-hand screen.

Thank you for working on the new version.5 (ver.5) very hard. To be honest, I only use ver.5 in editing imported texts. I mainly use ver.4 (of the iphone), because ver.4 is useful, and I’ve been very used to it. In the ver.5, its functions are slightly different as those in ver.4, and those in ver.5 may have bugs. I’m not sure if they could happen only in my computer. I use Google Chrome in the Windows. I’ll show you some.
When I regenerate an import text (to combine the separated parts of an imported lesson), then one space is deleted between two sentences. That means more sentences are shown in the sentence mode.
In attaching MP3 files or websites of MP3 files, ver.4 and ver.5 are different. In ver.4, I can upload longer than 60mins (within 80minutes, possibly) MP3 files, but in the ver.5, I can’t. I can only add website in the ver.5, but the files are less 60 minutes, as is the instruction.
I can’t number or order the lessons in the ver.5. In the ver.4, I can do that in the left column by changing the number.
When I import podcasts “This American Life”, both texts and MP3 are automatically divided and several lessons are shown, but as I want to erase them, sometimes I can’t do. There are no buttons “remove from my lessons” in these lessons.

The Websites shown in The News feeds in German are different. In the ver.5, Tagesschau is not shown. Without showing the news by Tagesschau, it is very problematic for me. It has no problems in the News feeds in English.
In both versions, I’ve rarely found articles from Süddeutsche Zeitung in the German News feeds lately. Previously I found those and imported them.
The ver.4 is still useful for me. These things in ver.5 above seem to be small, but when I experience these errors which could not be found in ver.4 and are hard to predict, my frustration increases little by little.
Bug: When navigating colored words by keyboard, if I encounter a colored word that lies within a previously-lingq’d but subsequently learned (ie “known”) phrase, the keyboard will skip that word. I have to select that word via mouse instead. (If it’s unclear what I’m describing please let me know.)

For number 3, you can drag and drop lessons into whatever order you like. Look for the drag control on the right hand side.
4. The “+” control adds and removes from Continue Studying now and it also appears in the … dropdown in many places. My Lessons no longer exists and is now Continue Studying.
5. We will try to match up these lists but there is an element of randomness there too. We’ll look into those different sources.
