VOA method of broadcasting and a limited vocabulary!?

I want to ask native English speakers.

VOA method of broadcasting used a limited vocabulary.
If you listened it, tell me please - it’s natural English or not?

I have just listened to two of the special English editions of VOA. One dealing with agriculture the other with short stories. I can see that the vocabulary has been made as easy as possible. The speakers are also speaking somewhat slower than in a normal conversation and are enunciating all the words with great detail. More than you would do in a normal conversation. It is supposed to make it easier for the learner to understand. The English is normal, but the delivery is somewhat slower than usual and the pronunciation is more accurate and precise than normal.
