Trump is to blame

“The city’s tourism marketing agency, NYC & Company, plans to announce that its forecast for international visitors has turned from positive to negative since Mr. Trump was elected in November. The city now expects to draw 300,000 fewer foreigners this year than in 2016, when 12.7 million international visitors came, a decline that will cost businesses in the city that cater to tourists at least $600 million in sales, the agency estimates.”

“Mumford [a professor of metaphysics at Durham University in north-east England] started to hear stories he didn’t like - like the British Muslim school teacher who was separated from his students and removed from a flight bound for the US, or that incoming travellers were being asked to turn over their mobile phones and social media passwords.”

Does the phrasal verb “turn over (something)” mean “transfer control or management of something to someone else”?

Trump also loves you, I am sure. There are no obstacles between you and Trump. You can feel and sense his presence and activity in your life. Believe me!

Is this a language course or some nut-jobs tired political tirade? Glad I didn’t buy the premium membership. If I wanted “the sky is falling” I’d go visit CNN. I guess you haven’t checked the stock market lately, eh?

How is it related to the tourism industry or “Trump slump” in the US?

Generally speaking or in the long run, economic protectionism tends to scale down the world economy.

Because it means that thoughts related to one of the Clinton’s adversaries just might be approaching smear, or propaganda, or something that’s not totally true ?

“James’ mate thinks James’ mortal enemy is a dick.” shock horror.

It’s not that hard to figure out.

Recently, I have come across many news articles about the strict control by the border officers. They can rummage through your laptop & smartphone, demand your passwords for apps and social media sites etc. I’ve even heard about a case that a guy was rejected because he had deleted all his data on the phone beforehand and this made him suspicious.

I don’t know if it has something to do with Trump or if this has always been the case but now the media is focusing on it more. One example: Nigerian engineer handed written test at New York airport, and death penalty bill criticised in Philippines - BBC News

"I don’t know if it has something to do with Trump or if this has always been the case but now the media is focusing on it more. "

It’s probably both. Although it’s never been easy to get into the US & Canada as a tourist even if you’re European. If you want to immigrate though, the door’s open. That’s the logic of the social left.

The same thing has been happening here. They recently caught a French man who was coming here to work illegally by searching through his Facebook messenger and the press TOOK HIS SIDE and mentioned that the customs officer probably went too far and broke some procedure rules or whatever.

Oh, and they still let him in.

i’m no fan of trump but i don’t believe that people will stop going to america because of trump well maybe if your from amuslim country .but getting avisa to go to america was not easy long before trump and i don’t think european vistors need a visa to go to america anyway

Sorry, I was trolling, can’t help it.
