The use of Referral Code?

Hello everyone!

I just want to know the use of Referral Code when you sign up in LingQ.
At first I thought if you write a username, both people get some amount of points.

I was able to persuade my mom to learn English using LingQ. And we wrote my username in the Referral Code, but then nothing happened. Is it normal??

@monyou - You will receive referral points each month that your mom’s account is upgraded to Basic, Plus or Premium membership. The points for referrals are sent out once a month towards the beginning of the month.
