I have just watched Steve’s short “Ice Bucket Challenge” video over on YouTube. (I am glad people have stopped saying “iced water challenge”, it sounds so terribly formal, whereas “ice water challenge” is grammatically unsound, I feel.)
My husband died of ALS (or MND as we say in the UK), but I wholeheartedly agree with Steve’s stance. It is perfectly acceptable to refuse a challenge like this. It is a “selfie” of sorts, some people crave it, some don’t. I have set up standing orders for a couple of my husband’s preferred charities and give spontaneously to others.
I must admit, though, that I still feel ashamed from time to time when I do not give to animal charities…
