The characters highlighted are not the right words

Studying today I noticed the words highlighted are not the right ones in the sentence. 何かご用ですか。It high lighted the 2nd and 3rd characters as a word, but it is supposed to be the 1st and 2nd together and then the 3rd and 4th. I tried to highlight it correctly and it wouldn’t let me fix it.

How do we know what is right and wrong when we study and how do we fix these problems?

Ah, this is due to our splitting algorithm. Since Japanese doesn’t naturally have spaces, we created an algorithm to automatically split sentences into words so you can save these words. The algorithm isn’t perfect, but it works well for 95%+ of words. In this case, if you don’t know the words then you can manually create LingQs of them from the Vocabulary page or you can just skip them and if they’re important you’re bound to come across them again in the future.

Again, don’t worry too much about nailing it down the first time. It’s best to learn a language more naturally by listening to and reading a lot of stuff, as more exposure to the language will help accelerate your rate of acquisition. Good luck!

thank you
how do you create lingq of them from the vocabulary page?

If you go to the Vocabulary page and scroll down a bit you will see a section on the right-hand side that says “Add a Term”. Simply type the word/phrase in here and click “Add”. The LingQ widget will pop up for you to then enter a definition (and a phrase if you like).
