Hi, yesterday I noticed Thai in the list of languages in the app. Obviously I was hyped, as I am currently studying the language on languagepod which is about the only resource I could find that offers the script. However, when I try to open the language on lingq I can only see the front page loading. I assume that you will add Thai soon? I have not found anything about this in the news so I’m checking in here.
Same problem here. Been waiting months, only seeing a blank page, no content
Looks like its close to being ready.
The Thai shelf appears fully functional apart from having any content.
- Lessons can be created
- Audio can be transcribed
- 3 Text to Speech options (including a nice AI voice)
- Auto translated by GPT
A possible issue I’m seeing is the split word parsing isn’t implemented.
Words from an uploaded lesson
First 3 sentences of that lesson
If the words were split it might look something like…
Transcribed lessons don’t have any sentence structure or timestamp information but the words are correctly split.
As I was writing this the words from generic imported lessons are now splitting normally
I haven’t tried importing as for me going to the language keeps loading forever but I am looking forward to thai being there and hope other languages will follow
I have tried importing and there are a few issues, such as entire sentences being considered one word. Or the opposite happening where individual words are only considered meaningless syllables. Like, I click on a word to see the meaning only to really be shown how it is pronounced.
There has been content I have imported that imported just fine and I am able to acutally use it, but its a hit or miss.
I have also been waiting for a long time for Thai to arrive.
Thai is indeed in development - It will be ready by July 29th.
We don’t recommend using it for now, as Rooster mentioned the word splitting hasn’t been implemented yet and we haven’t actually uploaded the stories, dictionaries, news feed… Please be patient, it’ll be here soon
That is the best news I heard in a long time! Looking forward to it
Thank you for informing us! I am so excited that Thai is finally being added!
Very excited Thai will be fun!
So looking forward to the official launch. I’ve imported some lessons already!!
Here is an idea: Why don’t you announce new features or languages somewhere (forum, newsletter)? I think that would take a lot of “discussion” out of the forum and would give people sth to look forward to. Anyways just a thought that might help everybody…
Still upcoming Thai is cause for celebration for me since I am struggling a lot with the language (made it to lesson 20 on pod101 since March and struggling with the script)
Will it have these kind of English text above it like in Japanese lingq that tells the user how to pronounce the word?
@jax4 We will look into adding transliteration for Thai.
I see today that the mini stories are available in Thai. Is Thai officially available or should wait?
@nsprung Is there a plan to add some sort of interactive flashcards or handwriting exercises to the app to learn the alphabet? That would be helpful.
That’s a good idea!
Check out this website I found.
You might want to look at thai pod 101 on youtube. Under courses there is one about writing. That’s what I am using as the vowels can appear on top before after and under a consonant. To make things worse: Some letters aren’t written and some letters are not pronounced!
