Speaking in a different register

I rarely have a need to speak my target language, but yesterday I was talking to myself for some reason and noticed that I tend to speak with a deeper voice in Japanese. Anybody else notice they speak at a different register?

Yes, it’s fascinating. My German voice is lower than my English one.

Don’t feel bad about talking to yourself. I do it all the time in French while walking around my city. So many people have bluetooth earpieces these days that walking around talking to yourself looks fairly normal :-p

I feel like I speak in a higher voice and in an almost childish fashion in my L2, but native speakers tell me I’m fine. I think we just get self-conscious in our second language,
