SoundManager not playing well with Firefox 3.6

This occurs when I click on a new word in a lesson (reads from bottom to top):

soundManager: Document already loaded
– SoundManager 2 failed to load (security/load error) –
soundManager.disable(): Shutting down
soundManager: Failed to initialise.
soundManager: No Flash response within expected time. Likely causes: Flash blocked or JS-Flash security error.
soundManager: Getting impatient, still waiting for Flash (SWF loaded)…
soundManager::externalInterfaceOK() (~6 ms)
soundManager::initMovie(): Waiting for ExternalInterface call from Flash…
soundManager::createMovie(): Trying to load http://m.lingq.com/media//js/soundmanager2/swf/soundmanager2_debug.swf
– SoundManager 2 V2.97a.20120513 (AS2/Flash 8) + HTML5 audio, normal polling –
– SoundManager 2: HTML5 support tests (/^(probably|maybe)$/i): mp3: false (using flash), mp4: false (using flash), ogg: true, wav: true –

This only happens in Firefox 3.6; Chrome works fine. Is FF 3.6.x not supported anymore?

@Karika - Firefox is supported but you may need to download flash in Firefox for the audio player to work. We are continuing to work on the Text to speech function which isn’t working on any browsers.

I’m currently running Flash 11.2.202.235. Is this compatible?

Should be as long as it’s up to date. As I said, the text to speech issue is something we are working on so if that’s your issue please wait until we resolve it.

I can’t open lingqs, make new ones, or look at dict entries (essentially, the popup bar that shows up when a word is clicked). When I click on a word (any one in a lesson), the above error message appears at the bottom of the page.

@Karika - You shouldn’t still be having these issues. Try ctrl refreshing or clearing your browser’s cache. If you still have problems, let us know what browser and os you are using.

Clearing my cache, ctrl-f5, and restarting Firefox had no effect. I’m using FF 3.6.28 running under Windows 7 64-bit.

@Karika: “I’m using FF 3.6.28 running under Windows 7 64-bit.”

Pardon me for barging in, but FF version 3.6.28 is from like when Lincoln was President. I think the latest version is something like 15.1. Any reason why you haven’t upgraded it?

Mainly because I don’t like the new Chrome-like minimalist look-and-feel.

A Google search of the error looks like it’s an inherent problem with Firefox 3.6 and Soundmanager 2: Firefox difficulties with soundmanager ? [#775968] | Drupal.org

It’s partially working for me now (though the error message is still showing up); I can look at word definitions provided I click on a few words at first. I still can’t create lingqs, though.

@Karika - How is your audio working now? It should be working on all browsers and text to speech should be working in yellow popups and in the yellow dashboard pane.

I don’t have sound in flashcards ((( So I can’t work with vocabulary ((( Try it in Crom and Explorer

I don’t have sound in Flashcards neither.

@Tatana, silvuajur - Would you be able to try this again to see if text-to-speech is working properly for you?

@mark: I’m not using audio; my problems have nothing to do with TTS. I still can’t get the translation window to appear in lessons.

@Karika - I have to admit that we have not tested the site on Firefox 3. Do you have a more up to date browser you can try? We hope to get to browser related issues before too long but only .1% of our users are on FF3 so your browser is not high on the priority list I’m afraid.

It works on Chrome and SeaMonkey.

Also, I managed to update Flash today, and, when I tried to click on the words in lessons (using Firefox 3.6), I got a different error message from before:

soundManager: Waiting for window.onload()
– SoundManager 2 loaded (OK) –
(Flash): Enabling polling, 50 ms interval
Flash security sandbox type: remote
(Flash): JS to/from Flash OK
(Flash): SM2 SWF V2.97a.20120624 (AS2/Flash 8) - cross-domain enabled
soundManager: Attempting JS to Flash call…
soundManager::init()
soundManager::externalInterfaceOK() (~7 ms)
soundManager::initMovie(): Waiting for ExternalInterface call from Flash…
soundManager::createMovie(): Trying to load http://m.lingq.com/media//js/soundmanager2/swf/soundmanager2_debug.swf
– SoundManager 2 V2.97a.20120624 (AS2/Flash 8) + HTML5 audio, normal polling –
– SoundManager 2: HTML5 support tests (/^(probably|maybe)$/i): mp3: false (using flash), mp4: false (using flash), ogg: true, wav: true –

I have the same problems as before: I still can’t create lingqs, and the translations of the words don’t show up unless I keep clicking.
