Russian listening comprehension - how to understand better?

Hi there! Well, Mr. EABurgess nailed it, not much to add. What a pleasure to read someone with solid practice experience.
I understand why you rush to using written language, that is because we were taught this way for many years. But to copy a child is the fastest way to fluency. I have posted already today as a reply to other RSL learner that some fairy tales cartoons can do a nice job during the very initial stage of learning.
Have you ever tried Story listening method?
Regards!
and Good luck!

I am curious about other people’s experience with slowing down and speeding up Russian language audio.

I’m finding my brain doesn’t always sort out the cases fast enough to keep up with rapid speech. After listening slowly a few times, it’s easier to keep up with the audio at full speed.

Do you find it best to push forward at full speed, regardless?
Or do you get better results by slowing down, and working up to full speed?

I’ve also been wondering if it might be helpful to listen to the audio in the background a few times before looking at the text.

What approach do you find works best?

Try this: listen to the text as fast as it can go, while trying to follow the text. Listen to it again a bit slower each time until about 0.75. Identify meanings of key words at this point and start building speed as you also build understanding. Then start increasing speed again up to the fastest it can go whilst still intelligible. For some reason, maybe because i have ADHD, I cannot understand anything in slower speech but do quite well around 1.25 all the time.
